When we moved to the country just over two years ago, there was one thing that was a drastic difference: the number of unexpected guests. When friends or family see Brandon’s truck outside, they usually stop by. It doesn’t bother me, it’s just a huge change! Since some of the farm ground we farm is around our house, we have people here in the spring and fall as well. We also love to have our friends and family over at a moment’s notice– so I have become pretty good at getting the house ready in a hurry. Here’s what I do:
Clean off counters, hutches, and other open areas.
We have three areas in our home that collect the most amount of “stuff”: the tops of the hutches, the one side of the kitchen counter top, and the benches by the back door. This is where the kids toss their bookbags and where I set things that need to go with me the following day, among other things. If I know I am having company over, even on short notice, I tidy up those three areas first. I will add that some of the kids’ things, like the Star Wars Legos or coloring things stay out because this home is not for show, it’s to live in. I don’t expect perfection, that is for sure.
Quickly dust the wood floor and the TV cabinet.
Our living room and dining room has hardwood floor that collects everything! Hair, dust, and lately, wallpaper removal remnants. A quick sweep of the floor with Bona Disposable Dusting Cloths locks away dirt and hair, leaving the floor looking clean even though it wasn’t freshly mopped.
Light a candle.
I love candles (especially this time of year!) and they immediately make a house feel & smell like a home. I even have several battery powered ones just for that beautiful glow! I turn them on and light one in the kitchen or on the fireplace before having people over and it gives the house a cozy feel.
Bona Disposable Dusting Cloths work with all of the Bona family of mops and other compatible stick mops, so you can #BeDustFree in no time and enjoy time with friends and family, even if they come over last minute!
Just type in dustfree in the upper right search bar!
