Last week, we returned from Cabo San Lucas, and I am just now finding the time to recap our trip. It was so fun and much needed! Our last two trips to Mexico (for our honeymoon and our 5 year anniversary) were to Riviera Maya, so it was nice to go to a different area. Cabo is starkly different from Riviera Maya because it is in the desert, and has many more rocks/hills. Our resort was about 45 minutes away from the Cabo airport, which was really convenient. We stayed at the Grand Fiesta Americana, and I already can’t wait to go back!
The resort itself was spectacular. It was clean, the food was excellent, and the staff was incredibly friendly. We loved the steakhouse restaurant, La Bodega, and the Mexican place, El Mexicano. The chocolate tamale at the Mexican restaurant was incredible! We also ate poolside at the Peninsula restaurant, and the nachos are not to be missed. We had them delivered to us poolside almost every day we were there.
The beach here is also much different than it was in Riviera Maya. It’s not white, soft sand. It was rockier and a bit harder to walk in. The beach at this resort wasn’t one you could swim in due to all of the rocks. That part didn’t bother me! There were plenty of lounge chairs by the beach, with wait service, so one morning we all congregated there and watched the boats go by.
There were several golf courses near by as well, along with other excursions including snorkeling, whale watching, and camel rides. We didn’t do any of these, because honestly, the only thing I want to do on vacation is lay around.
Our last night there was my parents 35th wedding anniversary, so we went back to the steakhouse for dinner. It was another wonderful meal, and they brought out a special dessert for my parents. It was so sweet!

The highlight of the trip was being able to see whales just off the coast! I have never seen whales like that (only dolphins!) and it was incredible. It was so fun to watch them. I put a video on Instagram if you are interested!
I would definitely recommend the Grand Fiesta Americana resort, and I would happily go back! It was such a restful trip and a great way to unwind after the holiday season. I am already planning our next trip!
