When we moved to our new home, we somewhat lost our mudroom. In the old house we had an entire mudroom and we absolutely loved it! Here, we have a back door that comes into a small area with tile that leads into a “bonus” living room. It’s a great space, we just haven’t completely figured out the best way to utilize it yet. With the back door coming in one way and the fireplace against the other wall, we currently have it set up as half mudroom (with benches, shoes, and a coat rack) and half living room, housing our loveseat, recliner, end tables, and coffee table. I love having the bonus living room, but the “mud room” part of this room has us stumped.
You would think that with all of the DIY we have attempted around here and in our old house, that we would be jumping all over trying to figure this room out. WRONG. We have drawn up several “ideas” for this room, but we aren’t in love with any of them. One of my biggest requirements for this room would be to add to the tile that is already there, and make that area larger. With farmers and little kids, something always gets tracked in on the carpet, and having more tile there would be SO much easier to keep clean! Here’s my inspiration:
This is where Carpet One comes in. Carpet One stores are locally owned, they do free in-home estimates, and they excel as much in installation as they do in design. They have a large selection as well as a Beautiful Guarantee– if you don’t 100% love it, they will replace your flooring for free!
I checked out their selection at the Peoria store, and was very shocked to find the same brand of the tile that we already have by our back door! This may earn me points as far as eventually completing this project.
This is the brand of tile that is currently in our mudroom area and I am currently doing some investigating into what color is the match.
It’s 12 inch tile and it’s a great neutral, making it very easy to get inspired for the overall look of the room. The room also has a beautiful red bricked fireplace, so sticking with a neutral color scheme is what highlights that feature in our home. The gallery wall is a work in progress, I need to decide on prints for the additional frames and then look for some fun accenting features.
To go with the tile? A nice plush carpet that houses our loveseat, recliner, and coffee table in front of the brick fireplace. It’s a cozy space and we intend to keep it that way.
We do a LOT of DIY around here but when it comes to flooring, that’s when I call in the experts. Right now, Carpet One is having a DDIY (Don’t Do It Yourself) Sale meaning up to 50% off select Lee’s carpets and up to $500 instant rebate (10% off) on select hardwood, tile, laminate, LVT and more. If you have a project that you are contemplating, let the experts help. Do you need more reason to not do it yourself? Check out this video— trust me. I don’t want to end up here!
