It’s been nearly 2 years since we moved to the country, and I remember the first thing I noticed when we looked at the house– it didn’t have a dishwasher. Brandon, of course, knew that as he spent some of his childhood in this house and was just hoping that I wouldn’t say it was a deal breaker. He promised we would put one in shortly after we moved. After months of waiting and complaining (I’m just being honest here), he surprised me in December by buying one and having it completely installed while I was on my annual Christmas shopping trip in Chicago with his mom’s side.
The dishwasher was the biggest surprise I think he has ever pulled off (besides our engagement) and it is now one of my favorite things ever. It’s a giant time saver and I just love it. LOVE it. However, when it comes down to spring cleaning, your dishwasher may be one thing you would normally forget to clean, right? Here’s a few tips for keeping your dishwasher clean so it can run at its best!
Use a good detergent.
Lemi Shine’s dishwasher detergent is fantastic. It breaks down even the most stuck on food and washes it clean away. Here’s a tip: if you have a receptacle for your dishwasher detergent, DON’T use it with Lemi Shine! Put it in the bottom of the dishwasher so it has direct contact with the water. You can thank me later.
Try a detergent booster.
We have hard water (one of the perks of country living) so I decided to try a detergent booster as soon as we got our dishwasher installed. It has made a world of difference on the appearance of our dishes, and is the perfect companion to Lemi Shine’s dishwasher detergent. Lemi Shine Detergent Booster removes spots, stains, and film during the main washing cycle leaving your dishes sparkling, even with hard water.
Use a Dishwasher Cleaner once a month.
I had never heard of dishwasher cleaner until I was seeking out the detergent booster. This stuff is fantastic, and keeps the inside of my dishwasher looking fresh and new. When your dishwasher is empty, place the contents of the package on the bottom of the dishwasher and then run a cycle as normal. This cleaner dissolves hard water buildup on the inside of your machine leaving your dishes cleaner. It’s non-toxic, biodegradable, and septic system friendly.
