Last year when our friends asked us to go on vacation with them, we immediately said YES! Brandon and I went to Mexico for our 5 year anniversary, and felt like it was a good time to celebrate (early) our 10 year this coming December. Since our friends had been to Mexico twice before like us, we decided to branch out and vacation to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic.
We stayed at the Princess Bavaro resort and had an amazing week! We had nonstop flights out of Chicago, transfer to the resort, and it was pretty smooth sailing once we arrived. We opted to do the Platinum Suite upgrades, because that is what we did the last time in Mexico, and it was really nice but maybe not as worth it here as it was in Mexico. We were greeted with a drink and a cool towel, checked in, and then they took our luggage to the room for us. We were lucky enough to be right across from the Platinum Lounge and could just barely get their Wi-Fi signal to check in with the kids.
Part of the Platinum upgrade means that you can make reservations at any of the restaurants. We did this for two nights, but found the Chopin buffet to be better, so we stuck with that for the last two nights of our trip. The lunch buffet by the beach was always good, but the day they were making fresh tacos outside was our favorite! I could have eaten those for the entire trip and not gotten sick of them.
The evening entertainment was really good, too! We had fun watching their groups perform, dance, sing, and the band was really awesome. It’s a very European tourist attraction, and we met people from Argentina, Denmark, and Canada. They do entertainment by the pool as well, and we were there for the foam party one day. It was a good time, but I was feeling a littttttttle old for that!
The beach was glorious, even though it was windy for the first couple of days. We had no trouble finding a good spot for the day in the sun AND in the shade, and we spent a lot of time there just relaxing. The bartenders at the beach were so friendly and nice as well! I managed to read an entire book, and the people watching was pretty incredible.
After an insane few months, it was so nice to get away and be completely relaxed. We missed the kids like crazy, but they did so awesome while we were gone. It’s made us really see how important it is to get quality time together, even in the midst of busy schedules. This doesn’t always mean a week vacation, but we can better use our time together to stay connected at home.
Overall, this vacation was a success! It was so nice to unplug for several days and just BE. I feel so much more refreshed, more goal-oriented, and ready to tackle some big things for 2017.
