If you follow me on Instagram, you know that over the course of the last year and a half, I have changed my lifestyle drastically. I cut out soda, most breads, some sweets, and I work out daily. For me, the 80/20 lifestyle works out the best for me– I do well 80% of the time, but if it’s a special occasion or PIZZA, I can indulge without feeling guilty. During the school year, I am very regimented and get up very early to get my workouts in before I have to get the kids up and out the door. Now that we are on a summer schedule, which is a bit more relaxed for the most part, I have had to plan ahead a little better to be able to stay on task. Here are a few of my summer fitness tips for staying on track:
Write it down.
I like to write out a month or even two months worth of a schedule down to help me stay on track. It also helps so that I don’t have to go back and forth on my app all the time looking at the workout calendar. Since my sister, sister-in-law, and I complete workout programs together, it helps us stay on the right track together as well! We have been doing our own thing for the last 2 months or so, and starting June 12th we will be back to following the same program. In addition, it’s incredibly gratifying to cross those days off one by one!
Just because it is summer, doesn’t mean I’m not setting goals. I am excited to take on a new workout program in two weeks. It’s going to be a challenge, but one I have worked up to. I am trying to find the 80/20 balance around all the grilled food, pool days, and ice cream stops as well. Other goals are to continue to get in a gallon of water a day in, and get at least 10,000 steps. The kids and I have made it a point to get outside every day– playing on the trampoline, taking golf cart rides, playing baseball, and shooting hoops. I want to inspire them to be active as well. I am also trying to incorporate more yoga into my workouts this summer. Goals keep me motivated, no matter how big or small they are!
Since I have given up most breads and unnecessary sweets for the most part (again with the 80/20), I try to keep good snacks on hand, especially protein! I don’t want to undo all of my hard work on an eating binge! In the middle of the day is when I start to get the munchies and want to raid the cabinet. My newest go-to snack is from Lorissa’s Kitchen. Lorissa’s Kitchen is a delicious, premium prep-free protein snack using only responsibly raised proteins, like 100% grass-fed beef, and responsibly raised pork. I pair it with some fruit or even sliced up veggies, and voila– the perfect snack! Lorissa’s Kitchen is high in protein, low in carbs, low in fat, has no MSG, no preservatives and is gluten free. It’s also bursting with flavor! It’s convenient to take on the go as well, so I don’t end up either being hungry or running through a drive thru.
Having good snacks on hand not only helps me with my goals, but it sets a good example for my kids, too! When they see me snacking on good, natural foods, they pick that up as a good routine as well.
