Summer is officially here! The kids wrapped up the school year last Thursday and had a great start to their summer with a camp out with our neighbors. Most weekends during the summer, you will find me at my mother-in-law’s place basking in the sunshine in their pool. It’s the best place for the summer– seriously. They are just far enough away that it feels like a vacation, but close enough we can go on a whim. The kids absolutely love it, and I love getting to make memories with them all summer long.
I plan to savor this summer. It’s the last one before I have both kids in school full time, and that will mean they will just get busier as they get more involved in other activities. We are taking the summer off from baseball and t-ball, which I am pretty excited about, but I know those things will eventually come back into our schedule. It’s pretty typical of us to pack up Friday evening, spend the night, then stay the remainder of the weekend. This weekend we went down Sunday and stayed most of yesterday, celebrating Memorial Day and the start of summer! What could be better?
I always have our pool bag ready to go, all I have to do is add the necessities. Here’s what I have in my bag for our fun summer weekends!
Obviously! The kids each have two (just in case) so I rotate them as needed. I have a few, thanks to our last couple of vacations, but this crocheted bikini is definitely a fave! After each weekend, I wash and put immediately back into the bag so nothing gets left behind.
A Great Read
I want to read several books this summer, and encourage the kids to be reading as well! This book, Grace not Perfection by Emily Ley has been on my shelf for awhile. I want to do some personal development reading this summer, continue to set some goals for my fitness journey, my business, and things to accomplish around our home.
Another necessity for weekends spent outdoors! Sun safety is important and I always have plenty of sunscreen to share with others!
My vision is pretty important, especially after having Lasik done 11 years ago. I have been encouraging the kids to wear their sunglasses when they are outside as well! It doesn’t hurt to start them early!
A packed cooler
We always take a cooler down for the weekend and I fill it with a variety of water and drinks to share with whoever comes down to hang with us! One of my favorites for a long pool day is an ice cold Coca-Cola™, and I usually stash a few more in there just to share. For even more fun, Share a Coke is back with 1,000 new Share A Coke names featuring First and Last names this year! It’s fun to try to find the name of someone we will see for the weekend!
CVS is the perfect place to pick up the bottle for on-the-go moments, Lucky for us, there is one on the way to my in-laws, so I can stop and stock up before we get there. It’s also easy to save when you use your CVS Extra Care card to receive the special pricing of 2 for $3.
Before your next summer weekend, stop at CVS and pick up a few ice cold Coca-Cola’s and savor the fun!
