School is just a week and a half away and we are almost ready. I have yet to get Brayden’s school supplies, only because I refuse to buy them WHILE IT IS STILL JULY. My biggest hangup at this point? The change of schedule for both kids. We have had an awesome summer with not a ton of structure, and Brayden going to all day school is going to be a huge change. If it wasn’t for Kenley, I am convinced that he would nap for 2 hours every single day, and I know they don’t allow THAT much rest time in kindergarten! I anticipate that the first few days/solid week of a school schedule for the kids is going to lead to some grumpy, short tempered kids. I’m already bracing myself for those days (doesn’t that sound awful?) and thankfully, I have brainstormed a couple of ideas to help us all adjust to this new normal.
Roll with the punches.
I honestly can’t predict how the kids will do, but I am not setting my expectations really high. I don’t want to expect the best and end up with the worst, so I am preparing myself to just go with it. If they need some rest after school? Let them rest. If they need some one on one time with me? I can do that. I’m making myself available as they adjust to help make things as easy as possible.
Let the little things go.
Dishes piling up because the kids need some extra attention? Who cares. Elaborate dinner plans out the window? Not a big deal! Let the little things go for a few days while your kids are making the adjustment back to school. Their brains will be on overload from new routines and learning, and yours will be just from trying to keep up!
One thing I plan to not stress about is dinner. As long as we are all sitting around the table, I don’t care what it is that gets us there. Luckily, with WalMart’s Marketside pizza’s, I don’t have to have elaborate meal plans every night of the week. I can grab a pizza that will easily feed the four of us, pop it in the oven and in less than 20 minutes, I have dinner on the table without the fuss. Pair it with a 2 Liter of CocaCola Effortless meals are convenient, leaving me more time to spend with my kids. You can also make an effortless meal out of their rotisserie chicken with two sides and a 2 liter of your favorite CocaCola product!
They are also delicious! I was really impressed with the taste of this pizza, and my whole family agreed! The crust is perfection and the flavor was great. I will definitely be buying these pizzas more often!
Have some fun surprises in store.
Surprising the kids with something easy and fun during this period of transition can give their moods a boost! A new book to read out loud, some new coloring pages to do while winding down at night, and a surprise Friday night movie night are some great ideas! The other trick up my sleeve? An easy summer dessert–> S’mores dip to be exact! This dessert has 3o seconds of prep time and has the taste of summer without the hassle of a bonfire. I’m pretty much addicted!
You need about 1/2 of a bag of chocolate chips (more depending on pan size), a bag of marshmallows, and graham crackers.
First, pour the chocolate chips into a baking dish into an even layer. We used a smaller pan, so I didn’t end up using an entire bag.
Then arrange the marshmallows on top in an even layer.
After your pizza is done baking, stick the s’mores dip in the oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until the marshmallows are slightly golden on the top.
Dip with graham crackers and enjoy!
Voila! Dinner AND dessert with essentially NO prep at all. My kind of meal!
I also love WalMart’s Marketside sandwich meals. I can grab a 6″ sandwich, my favorite jalapeno chips and a 20oz CocaCola and have lunch ready for Kenley and I as soon as she gets home from school. She loves the sandwiches, too! They would also be great to put in Brayden’s lunch.
Look for the Effortless meals at WalMart in the deli department. The signage as seen here makes it easy for you to find your effortless meal so you can be in and out of the store and off to enjoy an evening with your family.
